On this wonderful Christmas Day, I am amazed by the year I have just lived. There are endless ways in which I am thankful and blessed. I began the year with outrageous anxiety, troubling depression, and several thoughts about not wanting to live. Several months later, I am in a way better place than I ever thought possible. Because of everything that's happened this year, I have a future and it is one that doesn't involve me staying home alone all day wondering if I will see the sunrise. It is a future that any other capable, independent person would be able to have. I may have been born in 1997, but my life began on April 21, 2015 when I was admitted to Rogers Memorial Hospital. That is when I began to truly live.
I thought I would take the time to thank some of the people that made this year as amazing as it was. First of all, all of my friends that I met at Rogers (you know who you are). You all inspire me daily and even though we don't all keep in touch constantly, I love you guys just the same. Stay strong, friends. Next, my family. They have been through it all with me and they are an amazing support system. In addition, my boyfriend Jake has been outstanding to me this year. His love and commitment to our relationship is incredible. I am forever thankful for his support. Finally, my friends have shown me tremendous support in my time of need and I can't thank them enough. There are so many people out there that would have just walked away from the situation when I needed them, but my friends stuck around. That means the world. Thank you to everyone that touched my life this year. You are all a blessing.
I never imagined that I would be where I am today. Even though I still struggle from time to time, there is a future and there is hope. I am happier, healthier, and stronger than ever. That is all I could have ever hoped for. This Christmas has been unlike any other because of the amazing place I am at in my mental health journey. I am so grateful that I am alive and healthy today. Life is good. Merry Christmas everyone!
